There is a dramatic story behind this stunning artifact. Gerardo Mores, buyer and product developer for the Boeing Store Custom Hangar, remembers the day the shipment arrived. “The crate was nailed shut and had never been opened before,” he says. “The original shipping documents were on the outside of the crate, protected by a leather pouch that was stapled closed. When we opened the pouch, we found a typewritten listing of the crate’s contents, dated 1945. Inside the crate were three brand-new spare propeller blades for the B-17 Flying Fortress. We felt like we’d been dropped into a scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark!”

The legendary Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was a four-engine heavy bomber used widely for precision strategic bombing in Europe during World War II. It was beloved for its ability to sustain devastating battle damage and still bring its crews safely back to base.

Our craftspeople set each blade into a machined steel base finished with a translucent smoke-colored powder coating. The blade actually rotates on a bearing at the top of the base, and the serial number and label from the manufacturer, Hamilton Standard, are clearly visible. An authentic B-17 yoke button in the base adds a custom touch. The assembled piece measures approximately 83 inches high with a 21-inch base and weighs 375 pounds (crated). The purchase price for this exceedingly rare artifact is $9,500 (plus shipping and sales tax, where applicable).

Each piece is unique and may vary slightly from photograph. Certificate of Authenticity is included. Measures approximately 83″H with a 21″ base. Crated weight 375 lb. Made in U.S.A. NOT FOR FLIGHT USE
