McDonnell Douglas produced more than 976 DC-9 twin-engine jetliners between 1965 and 1982, including 47 C-9 aircraft for military customers. The versatile jets served operators for decades; the last DC-9 in regular passenger service finally retired in 2014. This artifact is a genuine DC-9 Pratt & Whitney JT8D engine cowling that has been converted into a sleek chair. The cowling was removed from the aircraft, stripped of paint, and polished in multiple steps to achieve a mirror finish. The seat is upholstered in high-quality black leather with stitching that echoes the shape of the rotor blades that once spun inside the engine.
