Custom Hangar Spotlight: Get the best seat in the house

Take your place in history with a rare artifact from the Boeing Store Custom Hangar.

This beautiful piece is a genuine DC-9 Pratt & Whitney JT8D engine cowling that has been converted into a luxurious leather chair.

McDonnell Douglas produced more than 976 DC-9 twin-engine jetliners between 1965 and 1982, including 47 C-9 aircraft for military customers. The versatile jets served operators for decades before the last DC-9 in regular passenger service finally retired in 2014.

This engine cowling was removed from a retired DC-9. Our craftspeople stripped the paint and polished the aluminum skin in multiple steps to achieve a mirror finish. The removable seat and back cushions are upholstered in high-quality black leather with stitching that echoes the shape of the rotor blades that once spun inside the engine.

“This chair was a showstopper at the Boeing booth at the 2015 Oshkosh air fair,” said Gerardo Mores, buyer and product developer for the Custom Hangar. “The hours of polishing and the custom upholstery left fans speechless at the beauty and detailing.”

This generously sized chair measures 30 inches high by 57 inches in diameter at its widest point and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. It’s an exceedingly rare item, and it’s available until December 31, 2015, at a special price of $7,650.* Order before December 15 to ensure delivery by December 25—and make someone’s dreams come true.
